Overview

Embark on a full-day excursion to Souss Massa National Park, a hidden gem located just 45 minutes south of Agadir. This park is a haven for nature enthusiasts, bird watchers, and wildlife lovers. Established in 1991, the park spans 33,800 hectares and protects a variety of ecosystems, from sandy beaches and wetlands to savannas and cliffs.

Explore Biodiversity and Unique Wildlife

The Souss Massa National Park is renowned for its diverse wildlife and rare species. It is home to the endangered Bald Ibis, one of the world’s most threatened birds. You’ll also have the chance to spot flamingos, herons, cormorants, and many migratory birds that stop here during their seasonal journeys.

In addition to birds, the park shelters gazelles, antelopes, and the elusive African ostrich. The tranquil lagoons and sand dunes provide an ideal habitat for these species, making it a perfect destination for photographers and nature lovers.

A Scenic Journey Through Nature

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive through traditional Berber villages and arid landscapes. Along the way, we’ll make short stops to admire panoramic views and take memorable photos. Once inside the park, a guided walk allows you to explore the trails and learn about the flora and fauna that thrive in this preserved environment.

After the walk, you’ll have free time to relax and soak in the peaceful surroundings before heading to a nearby coastal village for a delicious lunch featuring fresh seafood and Moroccan specialties.

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the Souss Massa National Park and nearby wildlife reserves. Discover rare species, stunning landscapes, and authentic Moroccan culture in one full-day excursion. Perfect for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers, this tour offers a glimpse into Morocco’s ecological treasures.

The Rokein Reserve is home to rare and endangered species, offering a unique opportunity to observe animals in their natural habitat.

  • Addax Antelope: Once native to Morocco, this desert-dwelling antelope was declared extinct in the wild in 1956 due to poaching. With its long migrations following rainfall, it symbolizes resilience in arid environments. (Height: 95–115 cm | Weight: 60–125 kg)
  • Dama Gazelle: The largest and fastest of all gazelles, reaching speeds over 100 km/h. Known for its elegance and speed, it remains critically endangered due to habitat loss and hunting. (Height: 90–120 cm | Weight: 40–75 kg)
  • Red-necked Ostrich: The largest bird on Earth, running up to 50 km/h despite its inability to fly. It disappeared from Morocco in 1945 and is now considered endangered. (Height: 220–250 cm | Weight: up to 150 kg)

The Arrouais Reserve protects additional endangered species native to the Sahara:

  • Oryx Antelope: Distinguished by its long, straight horns, the Oryx is critically endangered, having vanished from Morocco in 1973. (Height: 110–125 cm | Weight: 180–200 kg)
  • Dorcas Gazelle: A smaller, graceful gazelle often spotted in groups. It is widely distributed but remains threatened due to poaching. (Height: 55–65 cm | Weight: 15–20 kg)

Visit the quaint fishing village of Tifnit, where colorful boats line the beach and fishermen continue traditional practices. Enjoy a photo stop and a short walk along the coast, capturing the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean.

Unfortunately, parts of the village were demolished in early 2024 due to unauthorized construction within the maritime zone. Despite this, it retains its charm and cultural significance.

Explore cliffside cave houses used by fishermen as temporary shelters. These traditional homes, carved into the rock, offer a glimpse into Morocco’s coastal heritage. While some were recently demolished for legal reasons, the area’s natural beauty remains untouched, providing a stunning backdrop for photos and a tea break.

The highlight of the tour is the Souss Massa National Park, a protected area of global ecological importance.

  • Bald Ibis: Observe the critically endangered Bald Ibis, with fewer than 500 individuals remaining in the wild. This bird, once revered in ancient Egypt, is now one of the most endangered species worldwide.
  • Migratory Birds: The Oued Massa Lagoon is a sanctuary for flamingos, herons, and countless migratory species, offering excellent birdwatching opportunities.
  • Ramsar Site: Recognized under the Ramsar Convention for wetland preservation, the estuary plays a crucial role in biodiversity conservation, serving as a key stopover for migratory waterbirds.

Marvel at the contrast between the lagoon’s lush greenery and the surrounding desert landscape, creating a spectacular visual experience.
